ALBATROZ PALACE - D. António de Lancastre’s House

It was Dr. António de Lancastre (1857-1944) who ordered the construction of this beautiful and interesting house, located over the Praia da Conceição. Dr. António de Lancastre was the doctor of the Real Câmara and the collaborator of Queen D. Amélia, between other activities.

The space was generously given to him by D. Maria Luísa Domingas Souza Holstein, the 3rd Duchess of Palmela, known not only by her talent and great culture but also by her generosity.

The Duchess had already given to the notable writer D. Maria Amália Vaz de Carvalho, the house “D. Pedro”, over the Cascais bay.

This house of Italian architecture, also known by “the house of the yellow ceilings”, has a beautiful balcony with arches and columns facing the sea, which compose a true enchantment. The house was sold by D. Fernando de Lancastre (D. António’s son) to Carlos Mantero, in 1940 or 1941, whose family kept it until the year 2000, when it was bought and converted into a Hotel by the Albatroz Group.
