The region of Lisbon, also called the “Estremadura”, is divided into distinct sub-regions:
The capital which features the rehabilitation of its historical centre and the new eastern part of the city alongside the Tagus estuary on the site where the “expo 98” world exhibition was held.
The ’historical’ Cascais-Estoril rivieira of Lisbon which has been extended further north thanks to the recently built communication network.
On the southern bank of the Tagus river, the Costa Azul is one of the Portugal’s emerging hot-spot, especially since the new Lisbon’s international airport will be built on he north of the area.
This region is becoming an important destination for second home foreign investment and has been voted by UK's TV Channel 4’s “Place in the Sun“ program as “the best place to buy in the sun”.
The increasing number of tourism resorts being built, the incentives from the Portuguese Government, the development of an efficient road network and the closeness to the capital create an important differentiating factor and make it a very attractive location to invest.
Moreover the area offers a great range of cultural, shopping, leisure and sport activities. It also has some of the most stunning beaches in Europe.
In terms of real-estate, the Estremadura offers something to meet everyone’s interest and budget. Each sub-region has its own specification and price but the general trend is that the farther from Lisbon you look for, the cheaper it is. The letting season starts from June to September but could run from March through November for properties located on or close to a golf course with an estimated yield of 4,7%.
