In
1995, Penha Longa inaugerated this new nine hole (Par 35) course to
increase its existing supply and provide an alternative for the existing
and already well known course, which is considered to be one of the
best in Portugal. It extends over 2,221 metres. The main features are hole 4, near an ancient monastery building and hole 9, with a magnificent view over the Penha Longa Palace. Designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones II (also responsible for the original course), the Mosteiro is a less undulating course than those where Portugal's two Open Golf championships have taken place, and so presents fewer difficulties to the player. Yet it is a course that requires high handicaps and challenges players with its fast greens and narrow fairways. Mosteiro is also an attractive course, deriving a special beauty of its own from its surrounding lakes. particularly at holes 4, 5 and 8. All around the course, the verdant hills of Sintra, which once inspired Lord Byron, the famous romantic poet, provide a aconstant backdrop. No particular difficulty on this par 3 hole, just to warm up and experience the quality of the greens. |

Try to stay short of the slope at the dog leg with your tee shot. The hole then climb towards the green, think your next shot. |
|

Quite straightforward par 4. The elevated green is well protected by 3 bunkers. |
|
4 |
An elevated tee will allow you to see all of the traps of this par 3. Lake on the left, bunker to the right. (Water Hazard) |
