Hotel Establishments, Apartments and Resorts

Registration
In accordance with international practice, on entering the hotel establishment, the guest must be given a card (guest's card), showing the name of the establishment, guest's name, number and price of the room, dates of arrival and departure and number of persons occupying the room. The only valid price for the rooms is that shown on the guest's card.

In hotel establishments, except deluxe hotels, an extra charge may be made for room service.

Occupation of the room ends at midday of each day.

Prices
In the rooms and the reception desk of hotel establishments signs must be displayed, in clearly visible positions, giving the price of the rooms, continental breakfast, and of lunch and dinner, when there is a meals service.

In Portugal, establishments are free to fix their own prices.

Under no circumstances may the hotel force his guests to avail themselves of full or half-board or breakfast. Exception is made where breakfast is included in the price of the room.

The prices already include all taxes and other charges (T.S.C.).

Discount for children
In hotel establishments, children under eight years of age are entitled to a 50% discount on the price of full meals and the extra bed that is put in the room or apartment of persons accompanying them.

Extra bed
For an extra bed installed in the rooms of Hotels, Pousadas, Inns, Boarding-houses and other establishments, a charge may be corresponding to 30% of the price of the room.

For providing the same extra bed in Apartment Hotels, Motels and Tourist Villages and Apartments, a charge corresponding to 25% of the charge for the capacity and price of the room.


Guest Houses - TER

Definition
This form of Tourist accommodation, is basically characterised by the family atmosphere it provides and the fact that it offers a closer contact with nature and with the local people. Tourists receive specially personalised services.

Only houses that are registered at the State Tourist Office can offer Accommodation in
Turismo de Habitaçáo and Turismo Rural or Agriturismo.

Such Houses have a metal plaque by the main entrance showing the TER symbol and the logotype of the State Tourist Office (
Direcção-Geral do Turismo).

Registration
Guests must show their means of identification and must register.

Anyone interested in Tourism in the Country should book accommodation with the owners of the houses, through their Associations or through travel agencies.

When a booking is made, a deposit may be required, according to the length of stay and expected cost.

Full payment for the stay may also be required on the day of arrival.

Prices
The prices charged include bed and breakfast, the latter being obligatory.

Main meals
Main meals may be available if requested in advance and on the agreement of the house.

Camping Sites

Registration
To be admitted to a camping site, visitors must be in possession of some form of identification (passport or identity card) or a camping card issued by one of the recognised national or international camping organisations.

In the case of groups only the leader of the group needs to be identified.

Prices
Rates are based on the number of nights spent at a camping site and it is generally understood that the day of departure terminates at sunset.

Most camping sites offer special discounts on normal rates depending of the time of the year.

A stay of less than 24 hours is charged at the rate of a full day.

The price list must be visible in the reception.

Discount for children
There is no charge for children under the age of 4 years (inclusive) and children aged 5-10 will only be charged 1/2 price.

Extra bed
An extra bed at camping site accommodation, can be charged at 25% of the rate per person based on the price and capacity of the accommodation.

Minors under the age of 10 are entitled to a 50% discount on an extra bed when sharing the adult accommodation.

Period of residence
Camping sites must not accept visitors for a stay of more than 180 days as permanent residence is forbidden.

Regulations
Every camping site has its own regulations which will be handed out to visitors upon registration.

Persons under the age of 15, may not stay at camping sites unless accompanied by their parents or an adult who will accept responsibility for their stay.

Complaints

In all establishments there is an official Complaints Book, in which the guests, after identifying themselves, may make any observations and complaints they wish.
