Quinta das Lágrima Relais & Chateaux, more than just a charming hotel is located near "Portugal dos Pequeninos", and Santa Clara Convent nearly 3 miles from Highway Lisboa-Porto (Coimbra Sul exit), less then half a mile from the center of Coimbra and located in a park with 10 hectares.

Quinta das Lágrimas has its origins lost in time. It was the scenery for the forbidden love between Prince D. Pedro and D. Inês de Castro (noblewoman who served D. Pedro's wife, D. Constança). The legend says that in Quinta das Lágrimas D. Inês cried her last tears while she was trespassed by the daggers of the noblemen sent by D. Afonso IV, King of Portugal.

The tears dropped down by D. Inês have inspired Luís de Camões, who created the name "Fonte das Lágrimas" (Fountain of Love). Many other writers have also consecrated the eternal love between Pedro and Inês. After renovation, the Palace, now Hotel, has 54 rooms including suites distributed around 3 buildings - Palace, Garden and Spa, 5 reception rooms with capacity for 20 to 100 people, each one with big open windows overlooking the historic garden or the town and the University.

The rooms and the suites who received the Duke of Wellington, the Emperor of Brazil, king D. Miguel and D. Carlos of Portugal and President Manuel de Arriaga have now been renovated, offering all the modern commodities, while keeping the charm and romanticism from centuries gone.

In addition to the spacious rooms, where each one can be alone, the guests can also enjoy the external environment, where centenary and exotic trees stand amidst beautiful fountains. The diversity of rooms we have in Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas allows the creation of some special activities. Meeting rooms with all the necessary equipment (daylight), facing the gardens and chapel and surrounded by lakes, are perfect for work related events, congress and seminaries.

Hotel Quinta das Lágrimas also has some spaces for parties, like a pool, balconies and reception rooms filled of romanticism. Here, many important people have been received. This is the right place for weddings, baptisms, anniversary parties and other kind of receptions.

The restaurant, with special reference in regional and international gastronomy and a rich wine list, makes the difference. One meal in the restaurant "Arcadas da Capela", or a drink on the bar "Questão Coimbrã" are unforgettable moments.
